Don’t Penalize Victims Act

This bill changes the rules about getting money after disasters. Right now, if you get federal disaster help, you cannot get money for the same thing from any other source. If you do get other money, the government reduces how much disaster help you receive. This bill would allow people to keep both their federal disaster assistance and money from other sources like charities or legal settlements, as long as the other money doesn't come from another federal program or insurance.
