To permanently extend the exemption from the engine compartment portion of the pre-trip vehicle inspection skills testing requirement for school bus drivers, and for other purposes.

This bill would make it a permanent rule that states can choose to let school bus drivers skip the "under-the-hood" engine check portion of the commercial driver's license (CDL) test. Right now, this exception exists temporarily and has to be renewed every few years. States that use this exception must limit those drivers to driving school buses only within their own state, still require the rest of the vehicle inspection test, and submit a yearly report on how many drivers get their CDL this way.
