American Tank Car Modernization Act of 2025

This bill creates new programs run by the Federal Railroad Administration to help put sensors on tank railcars that can send real-time safety information while a train is moving. It sets up a grant program to help railcar owners or operators buy and install systems that wirelessly track a railcar's location and condition. When choosing who gets the grants, the program must focus first on new tank railcars and those carrying the most dangerous materials, like toxic or poisonous gases. The bill also creates a pilot program to help develop new sensor technologies, such as ones that can monitor things like wheel temperature, to make freight railcars safer.
