DEFIANCE Act of 2025

This bill makes it easier for people to take legal action when someone shares private sexual images of them without their permission. It also creates a new right to sue over fake sexual images, often called deepfakes, that are made using artificial intelligence or other technology to look like a real person. People who are victims of these actions can sue for money, including punitive damages and any profits the person responsible made from the images. The bill gives victims 10 years to file a lawsuit, starting from when they find out about the violation or when they turn 18, whichever comes later.
