PROTECT Act of 2025

This bill gives participating tribal courts more power to prosecute certain crimes. Currently, tribal courts can prosecute both Native American and non-Native American people for crimes like domestic violence, sexual violence, and stalking when committed against Native American victims on tribal land. The bill expands this to include drug crimes like trafficking and possession, and gun crimes like using firearms during other covered crimes or possessing guns after domestic violence convictions. The bill also lets tribal courts get electronic information like emails and text messages through warrants, just like state courts can do.
