Rural and Municipal Utility Cybersecurity Act

This bill extends through 2030 a Department of Energy program that helps rural electric cooperatives and small electric utilities with cybersecurity. It changes the rules so that funding and assistance can be given without a competitive process, and it adds that utilities operating important military-related electric infrastructure should be prioritized, not just those that own it. The bill also strengthens privacy protections so that information shared through the program with federal, state, tribal, or local governments cannot be released to the public through open-records requests.
