KIDS Act

This bill sets up new safety rules for kids on the internet. It requires websites with a lot of sexual content to use technology to identify and block minors from seeing that material. Social media platforms would have to turn on default settings for kids that limit addictive features and contact from other users, give parents tools to manage their child's account, and ban disappearing messages for minors. Online video game platforms would need to give parents tools to control who can communicate with their child and limit in-game purchases. AI chatbots would have to tell kids they are talking to a computer, not a real person, and share information about suicide and crisis hotlines. The Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general would be in charge of enforcing these rules, and the bill also calls for studies on how social media affects kids.
