SAFEGUARDS Act of 2026

This bill increases the amount of money from airline passenger security fees that goes toward airport security equipment. Right now, $250 million of those fees is set aside each year for things like baggage screening systems, and this bill would double that to $500 million. It also creates a new fund that would receive an additional $250 million each year from those same fees to pay for security checkpoint technology at airports. Currently, most of the passenger security fees collected go toward paying down the national debt, and this bill would redirect more of that money to airport security improvements instead.
