Data Infrastructure Energy Measurement and Standards Act

This bill tells the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to create a program focused on measuring how much energy and water data centers use, including when they run artificial intelligence models. NIST would develop best practices and standards for these measurements, conduct research to make the measurements more accurate, and study what data is needed to predict future energy and water demand. The bill also requires NIST to work with the Department of Energy to manage and share this data, coordinate with international partners on global standards, and regularly update Congress on how the program is going.
