Physicians for Underserved Areas Act

When a hospital that trains medical residents closes, Medicare currently requires its training spots to be given to nearby hospitals first, then to hospitals in the same state, then the same region, and finally to any other hospitals. This bill removes the step that prioritizes hospitals in the same region of the country. It also changes the rules so that hospitals receiving these training spots must show they will start using them within two years and fully fill them within five years, instead of the current requirement to fill them within three years.
