Accountability Through Electronic Verification Act

This bill would require all employers in the country to use the E-Verify system to check that the people they hire are legally allowed to work in the United States, and it would make the program permanent. Employers who don't use E-Verify could be presumed to be breaking immigration law, and the bill increases fines and criminal penalties for hiring people who are not authorized to work. It also sets up a new center to check that employers are following the rules and requires several government agencies to share information to help find workers who are not authorized to be employed. Additionally, repeat offenders and those convicted of violations would be banned from receiving federal contracts or grants.
