LOCAL Foods Act of 2025

This bill changes the rules about meat inspection for people who raise and slaughter their own animals for personal use. Right now, if you raise an animal and slaughter it yourself for your own household, you don't have to follow certain federal meat inspection requirements. This bill expands that rule so that a group of people or a community can jointly own an animal and still qualify for the same exemption, and the owners can also have someone else help with the slaughtering, preparing, or transporting of the meat as long as the owners keep track of and maintain control over the meat.
