Common Cents Act

This bill would stop the U.S. government from making new pennies for everyday use, though pennies would still be accepted as real money. When people pay with cash, the total would be rounded up or down to the nearest five cents. The bill also gives the Department of the Treasury the ability to stop making other coins for everyday use if it follows certain steps, including notifying Congress. Additionally, the bill would allow the nickel to be made from different materials than what is currently used.
