Federal Carjacking Enforcement Act

This bill makes it easier for the federal government to charge someone with carjacking. Right now, prosecutors have to prove that the person who took or tried to take someone's car specifically intended to cause death or serious injury. Under this bill, prosecutors would only need to prove that the person knowingly took or tried to take the car. The penalties stay mostly the same as current law — up to 15 years in prison, a fine, or both, and up to 25 years if someone is seriously hurt or killed and the crime involved an intent to cause serious harm or the use of a firearm.
