Closing the De Minimis Loophole Act

Right now, packages shipped into the U.S. that are worth $800 or less can come in without any tariffs, fees, or taxes. This bill would immediately end that benefit for goods coming from China and would end it for goods from all other countries 120 days after the bill becomes law. During that 120-day period, the Department of the Treasury would need to set up new rules for collecting duties, fees, and taxes on these smaller shipments, including packages sent through the mail. The bill also requires that shipments sent through the U.S. Postal Service are treated the same way as packages sent through other shipping methods.
