Protecting Veteran Community Care Act

This bill requires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide mental health or substance-use treatment through community (non-VA) providers when the VA cannot accommodate a veteran quickly enough at its own facilities. It says the VA cannot deny a veteran access to community care just because outside providers also have long wait times, and it lets veterans choose their preferred option when more than one is available. The bill also sets minimum standards, like licensing and accreditation, for any community facilities providing these mental health or substance-use services to veterans.
