STUDENT Act

This bill changes the rules for the National Education Association, a teachers' union with a federal charter. It would require the organization to clearly notify government employees of their right not to join or pay dues, get clear consent before collecting dues, and stop using payroll deduction to collect those dues. The bill would also ban the organization and its leaders from participating in political activities, require its officers to be U.S. citizens, require yearly reports to Congress, ban the organization from requiring members or staff to follow certain principles related to race or sex, and ban the organization and its affiliates from participating in strikes or work slowdowns affecting state or local governments. It would also remove the organization's exemption from property taxes in Washington, D.C.
