Freedom to Move Act

This bill would have the Department of Transportation give out competitive five-year grants, called Freedom to Move Grants, to states, local governments, transit agencies, and nonprofit organizations in both rural and urban areas. The grants would cover lost fare revenue so public transportation systems can offer free rides, and they would also fund improvements to public transportation, especially in underserved communities. These improvements could include making bus service safer, more frequent, and more reliable, as well as upgrading bus stops and adding pedestrian and bike shelters.
