Food Date Labeling Act of 2025

This bill creates standard rules for the date labels you see on food packaging. If a date is about food quality, the label must say "BEST If Used By" (or "BB" on small packages), and if a date means the food should be thrown away after that point, the label must say "USE By" (or "UB" on small packages). The labels can also include "or freeze by" where it makes sense. The bill requires the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Agriculture to put these rules in place, prevents state and local governments from creating different date labeling rules, and does not apply to infant formula, which already has its own labeling rules.
