Alaska Native Landless Equity Act

This bill lets five Alaska Native communities in Southeast Alaska — Haines, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Tenakee, and Wrangell — form their own urban corporations and receive land. The Department of the Interior would be required to transfer specific land to each of these new corporations, including things like roads, trails, and leases connected to that land. The underground resources beneath the land would go to the regional corporation for Southeast Alaska. Each urban corporation would also be allowed to set up a trust to support the health, education, and welfare of its members and to help preserve Alaska Native heritage and culture.
