Expanding the VOTE Act

This bill aims to make voting materials more accessible to people who have limited ability to speak or understand English. It builds on an existing law that requires certain states and local areas to provide voting materials in languages other than English for specific groups, including American Indian, Asian American, Alaskan Native, and Spanish-heritage communities. The bill requires the Department of Justice to notify affected states and local areas about the rules they must follow, and it requires those areas to provide written translations of all voting materials to election workers. It also sets up grants to help states pay for translating voting materials and calls for a study on whether the rules should cover more people and more languages.
