Service Starts At Home Act

This bill would require the Department of Education to create several programs that encourage students to get involved in their local communities. It would provide grants to help pay for internships in local government for high school and college students, and it would offer scholarships to students who show a commitment to volunteer work for government or nonprofit organizations. The Department of Education could also give extra funding directly to students who already received these volunteer service scholarships. Finally, the bill would set up a program to recognize schools and colleges that do a strong job of contributing to community service.
