Great Lakes Mass Marking Program Act of 2025

This bill gives official legal backing to a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service program that tags large numbers of fish raised in hatcheries in the Great Lakes area so they can be told apart from wild fish. The program has been running on a small scale since 2010, and this bill would let the agency buy more equipment and hire more staff to expand it. The bill also requires the agency to share the data it collects with federal, state, and tribal fish management agencies so they can make better decisions about managing Great Lakes fisheries, restoring habitats, balancing predator and prey fish populations, and supporting tribal, recreational, and commercial fishing.
