SAFE Orbit Act

This bill officially creates a system for tracking objects and debris in space to help prevent collisions. It upgrades the Office of Space Commerce into its own bureau within the Department of Commerce and gives it the job of collecting and sharing data about where satellites and other objects are located in space. The bureau must make this information available for free to satellite operators and the public, but it should try not to compete with private companies that sell similar services. The bill also says the U.S. government cannot be sued over the space tracking information or services it provides.
