No Aid for Ghost Students Act of 2026

This bill requires the Department of Education to set up a system that checks for identity fraud when people fill out the FAFSA, which is the form used to apply for federal student aid. Starting October 1, 2026, every application would be reviewed, and if there is reason to suspect fraud, the applicant and the colleges listed on the application would be notified. Colleges would not be allowed to give federal financial aid to a flagged applicant unless the college first confirms the person's identity in person or through a live video call. The Department of Education would also be required to create guidelines for how colleges should carry out these identity checks.
