Promoting Access to Local Agriculture Act of 2026

This bill requires the Department of Agriculture to make it easier for farmers and ranchers to sign up as vendors in federal food assistance programs like SNAP, WIC, and programs that help seniors and other people buy fresh food. Instead of filling out separate applications for each program, farmers would be able to use a single application or a system that shares their information across programs. The bill also requires the department to set up simple, standardized technology — like a single device or a phone app — so farmers can accept program benefits, and to make sure the equipment works well for places like farmers markets.
