American Cures Act

This bill would set up permanent funding for several government agencies and programs that do medical research, including the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of Defense health program, and the Department of Veterans Affairs medical and prosthetics research program. It would protect this funding from automatic spending cuts known as sequestration. The bill would also make this funding exempt from certain budget rules that normally require Congress to offset new spending with cuts or revenue elsewhere.
