Loan Forgiveness for Educators Act of 2026

This bill changes the current Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program by expanding who can qualify and what kinds of loans are covered. It opens up the program to early childhood educators, program directors, and school leaders at high-need schools, not just teachers, and adds more loan types like Parent PLUS Loans. Under the bill, the Department of Education would make monthly student loan payments for qualifying educators while they work and would forgive their remaining loans after five years of service, which no longer has to be five years in a row. The department would also be required to let borrowers know about these changes to the program.
