This bill would stop the Department of Education from handing off certain offices and their responsibilities to other federal agencies through agreements between agencies. The offices covered include those dealing with special education, college-level education, Indian education, and K-12 education, and the protected responsibilities include things like running programs, giving out grants, collecting data, and overseeing how grant money is used. The Department of Education also cannot get around this rule by first moving a program to a different office within the department and then transferring it out. The bill requires the Department of Education to regularly report to Congress on any agreements it has made since February 1, 2025, to transfer its work to other agencies, and it limits the department's ability to spend money on travel if it does not provide this information.
