Eleanor Smith Inclusive Home Design Act of 2026

This bill says that certain new homes built with federal help, including single-family houses and town houses, must have at least one floor that meets basic accessibility standards for people with disabilities. These standards include an entrance that is accessible, doorways wide enough for wheelchairs, at least one bathroom that works for wheelchair users, and light switches and outlets placed at heights people can easily reach. If someone believes this rule has been violated, they can file a lawsuit.
