Summer Meals and Learning Act of 2026

This bill creates a grant program to help pay for summer reading programs for young children at schools that also serve summer lunches. The Department of Education would give grants to state library agencies, which would then pass the money along to local school districts to run these reading programs. To qualify, a school must have at least half of its students in prekindergarten through third grade either reading below their grade level or at risk of falling behind in reading by third grade.
