Risky Research Review Act

This bill creates a new independent government board called the Life Sciences Research Security Board to oversee federal funding for certain types of scientific research considered high-risk, such as studies involving dangerous viruses like Ebola that could be misused or made more dangerous. Before a federal agency can fund this kind of research, the board must review it and decide whether the research should be allowed and what safety measures are needed. Organizations applying for funding must honestly report whether their research falls into this high-risk category, and agencies must verify those claims and send high-risk proposals to the board for approval. If researchers don't honestly report the nature of their work, they could lose their eligibility for funding, and government employees who don't follow the rules could face disciplinary action.
