Rural Broadband Protection Act of 2025

This law requires the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to create a process for checking whether companies applying for government funding to build internet service in rural and other hard-to-reach areas are actually qualified to do the job. Applicants would need to show they have the technical skills, money, and a solid business plan to follow through on their proposals, and the FCC would also look at how well they've handled other government broadband funding in the past. Once the new rules are in place, only applicants who pass this review can receive funding, and the FCC must set financial penalties for applicants who fail to meet requirements during the review process.
