PROTECT USA Act of 2025

This bill stops certain American businesses from following foreign environmental and social responsibility laws, specifically rules like the European Union's directive that requires companies to review and report on the environmental and social effects of their operations. The businesses covered include those that have contracts or leases with the federal government, companies that get at least 25% of their revenue from extracting or producing raw materials, manufacturers, and companies that make weapons or other products important to national defense. The bill also protects these businesses from punishment for refusing to follow those foreign rules and lets them sue anyone who takes action against them for not complying. Companies or people who violate this law could face fines up to $1 million and be banned from federal contracts for up to three years.
