Tax Exempt Hospital Transparency Act

This bill would require hospitals that don't pay taxes because of their nonprofit status to share more information with the IRS. They would need to report things like how they are helping their communities, how much financial assistance they provide to patients, and how many applications for financial help they received, approved, or denied. Larger or higher-earning nonprofit hospitals would have to report even more details. The bill also asks a government watchdog agency to study the costs of these new reporting rules and to estimate how much tax money the 25 highest-earning nonprofit hospitals would owe if they had to pay taxes.
