Daniel J. Harvey, Jr. and Adam Lambert Improving Servicemember Transition to Reduce Veteran Suicide Act

This bill requires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Defense (DOD) to give more mental health information and support to service members who are leaving the military and to veterans who have recently left. Under the bill, the military's program that helps people transition out of service must include more information about mental health, including the risk of suicide and other stresses that can come with leaving the Armed Forces. The bill also expands a VA program called Solid Start, which reaches out to veterans during their first year after leaving service, by requiring the VA to help those veterans sign up for VA health care and teach them about available mental health and counseling services.
